LEGO - UCS Millennium Falcon - A Builder’s Tale (Part 1)

Falcon Build Progress Report #1: A Lesson in “Don’t Panic and Take Your Time”
Today I started. And in typical Georges fashion. I almost ended. I knew this was going to take some ambition. Lego now organizes things a lot more than when I was a kid. Back in those days your Lego set came either in a pocketed subdivider in the box or indentical plastic bags. Now at least they number the bags (ie - take bag 1 then bag 2 etc). I told myself I would start slow. It’s a marathon not a sprint. I’ll start with bags 1&2. Well we didn’t hit bag 2 cause there were 6 bags with the number 1 on them. 3.5 hours in I thought I was finishing (finally) with bag 1. I looked at the pieces still on the table and there seemed to be quite a few. Lego provides extras, especially the really small pieces, but this seemed like more than a few and some were not so little. This is where the “take your time” comes in. I had forgotten two larger pieces that, at this point, could not just be jammed in. Where they were supposed to fit had been closed in in about 40 different ways. It took almost 2 hours and a very close bout with tears of defeat and howls of anguish before I (miraculously) fit the pieces in and then spent another hour rebuilding and verifying. I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. The scars are physical (my fingers are a little sore), I’m tired, and my eyes are having difficulty focusing. But I made it. “Bag” 1 complete. That’s enough for today. By far the most challenging Lego undertaking of my career. More updates to come. Read em, laugh at em, laugh at me, or smile and join the fun 🙂 #lego #starwars #milleniumfalcon #whathaveistarted #uhoh #hereswherethefunbegins #thisisntpodracing
