LEGO - UCS Millennium Falcon - A Builder’s Tale (PART 16/17)

Falcon Build Progress Report #16/17: Final Entry - The Falcon Flies Again

Ladies, gentlemen, and all the people that identify in between. This is it. The last day. We made it. Bag(s) 16 & 17. In the homestretch we constructed the cockpit (he heh cockpit), the adjoining hallway, some of the final panelling and detailing, the communications / sensor dishes (they provide both original trilogy and sequel trilogy versions which I thought was a nice touch), the dorsal turret placement, put in all our minifigure buddies (including the additions of sequel trilogy era Han and Leia), and finally the display plaque. Today was a long build and just to make sure I remembered who daddy was - this session saw no less than 3 missing pieces (I found replacements in two cases and in all cases spares will be ordered - Georges demands completeness). Over all today felt…anxious. 50% was because of the missing piece problems, 25% was because I had pulled a Georges classic and over-scheduled my day, and 25% (only 25!) was to finish this long overdue project. But finish I did. And I am very, very happy with the outcome. These last 8 weekends have seen a cornucopia of inconvenient complications and conundrums. They saw a flagging builder who felt drained physically, mentally, and emotionally by the small Danish bricks as if they were a collection of tiny, upset girlfriends. Frustration and false pride abounded in equal measure. But damn was it fun. What an incredible model made out of such an incredible, timeless toy. I love Lego. And I have loved writing my little love notes to you, my dear social media readers, to share the pleasure and pain with you. Thank YOU for reading and not judging my midlife crisis too harshly. If you have enjoyed it then perhaps more builds could be accompanied by so silly little stanzas on their advancement too. I love you. (Obligatory “I know”)
