LEGO - UCS Millennium Falcon - A Builder’s Tale (PART 11)

Falcon Build Progress Report #11: A Little Under. A Little Over. But Still So Mid

So last Sunday saw the installation of two sections abreast of the belly turret mid ship and today saw their topside counterparts installed. Only a few pin connectors today and the two assemblies were mostly similar. Very little on the Falcon is going to be identical if there is more than one similar part. The ship is supposed to look motley. It is one of the most famous ships in the Star Wars universe but if we were to actually LIVE in the Star Wars universe and SEE the Falcon it would (by all accounts of every character to gaze upon her glory for the first time) strike us as a piece of junk. The 1996 Honda Civic of spaceships. Sure - it’s had an LS swap and sure it’s “got it where it counts” but it’s really Han and Chewie’s faithful old jalopy. everyone else would rather…something sleeker. So in this Lego assembly a lot of the finishing details are like adding junkyard parts to that never ending JDM build in a mechanic’s garage. Some bits fit right if you don’t look too closely. Some bits are perfect so long as different colours don’t bother you. But it’s YOUR baby. And the fact of the matter is this - when it’s your baby that you fix and fly and fight and find your fortune in - then it’s hard to argue why you fall in love. So here’s to the mismatched, ill-fitting, ‘broken-but-that’s-how-it’s-supposed-to-work’ parts in all of us. I just hope the Lego Millennium Falcon is not my little Japanese project car stuck in the garage for 6 years as I struggle to find the time. Onwards to tomorrow.
